Families Are the Answer

Multiple studies show that parent engagement and involvement in children's learning is positively related to children’s lifetime outcomes. The research also shows that the earlier in a child's educational process family involvement begins, the more powerful the effects will be. Educators frequently point to the critical role of the home and family environment in children's school success. The earlier this influence is "harnessed" and supported, the greater the likelihood of higher student achievement.

“… decades of research suggests that family engagement is positively linked to children’s outcomes in preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary grades.”

A close look at the studies in the literature review below show strong indications that the most effective forms of family involvement are those which engage families in working directly with their children on learning activities in the home. Parents and families of all backgrounds, when given support, can become more engaged with their children’s learning.

“The studies in this review indicate that, with guidance, many parents — across all socioeconomic, educational, and racial or ethnic backgrounds — are interested in and able to conduct learning activities at home with their young children.”

When parents and families are more engaged, children thrive. That’s what ThinkPlayful is all about!
